Everyone, please be careful if you are still trying to travel for the holidays. It really doesn't look like this weather is letting up, plus it's... well, you all have seen the news, right?

I'm somewhat glad I mailed all my gifts out earlier, but I got a message from the post office saying the gifts will likely be delayed a few extra days, just from all the heavy weather. Eridan and I are staying in Cerulean for the time being, so please, nobody worry about us.

I also had a question, um.. is there such an item that makes it so a Pokemon doesn't evolve? Do you think, if it is real, that it is a good idea to use? Or is it wrong to make it impossible for a Pokemon to evolve?

There's an item like that, yeah. It's called an Everstone - you can buy them in Goldenrod. Maybe Celadon too, I haven't looked. As long as they hold one, they won't evolve.

How do you feel about it being used for, say.. a Grimer. They're known for being living piles of sludge with faces, and are incredibly toxic to even be around. The ground won't grow anything after a Grimer has stepped on it. Do you think it would be better to keep it as a Grimer, or let it evolve into a Muk and unfortunately, cover more ground and be far more toxic?

Ahh, well, usually I'd prefer to leave it up to the Pokémon themselves. If they don't want to evolve, they shouldn't have to just because their nature says so, but if they do, then I wouldn't want to hold them back. But in that kind of case...

Well, I guess, does it like going around and messing things up, or can you make sure it only comes out in places where nothing grows anyway?

It's more that I'm not sure it would be good for itself to evolve. Poison type Pokemon are a bit dangerous, simply because of the toxins they carry.

Why prevent what's natural? Evolution's just like growing up, and it makes a Pokémon stronger.

[Granted, he doesn't evolve his Haunter, but Phantom's a rare exception.]

But is it safe to keep them with you when it's a poison type? The toxins grow stronger, and it's.. well, it's downright dangerous for anyone the Pokemon encounters. For example, a Grimer walking anywhere leaves the grass and ground so poisoned, nothing will grow there again. What happens when a grass type passes that ground and picks up the poison?

But, again, it's natural. Poison types can't help that they're poisonous, but if they want to evolve, why hold them back? The way you're describing it makes poison types sound bad, and is that really fair?

Even if a grass type passed over their trail, it's not like they'd die. Plus, some grass types are part poison.

It's not terribly bad, but it's enough where we wouldn't get all the way down to Saffron without possibly getting trapped somewhere. It's safer to stay put until the storm has passed.

Good, at least Cherrygrove doesn't seem to be getting hit the worst. If you have a fire type -- no wait, the Sentret that breathes fire! If you get snowed in, that should be of great help.

I just worry because it's a poison type, and.. well, for instance, Grimer are toxic sludge Pokemon. Wherever they walk, the ground is so toxic that nothing will grow there again; what happens if another Pokemon steps there without knowing?

That would depend on what the Pokémon wants and if it's permanent, I guess? It'd be a shame if you didn't have the opportunity to change your mind.

Evolution is definitely permanent. Some of the people here area always saying to be careful about evolving, simply because of that.

I haven't seen a Pokémon mind their evolution yet, but that might just be a matter of personality. Why do you want to stop that one?
